Cycle time calculator

A quick estimate of machining time from cutting length and feed, plus rapids, tool changes and loading. To time a whole program, paste it into the G-code viewer.

How it works, guides and notes

How it works

Cutting time = cutting length ÷ feed per minute, where feed per minute = feed per rev × rpm. Rapid time = rapid length ÷ rapid rate. Tool changes, dwells and loading are added in seconds. The result is an estimate: real machines accelerate and slow down at corners, and overrides and look-ahead change the time, so expect the real time to be longer, especially for short moves.

Hand check: 2000 mm at 400 mm/min = 5.000 min; 1500 mm of rapids at 5000 mm/min = 0.300 min; 2 tool changes × 6 s + 30 s load = 42 s = 0.700 min. Total 6.000 min a part, 60 min for 10.

Feed the time into the job costing calculator to price the work.
